Halef Episode 1 synopsis

The Yelduran and Kordağlı families are two rooted families in Urfa whose long-running hostility has been quieted by an agreement linked to Serhat and Yıldız’s marriage. Serhat has lived away from home and does not want that future. In Istanbul, he works as a successful surgeon and plans to move abroad.

His plans change when he meets Melek. Serhat falls in love with her and wants to marry her, hoping to build a new life in Istanbul. When his father becomes ill, Serhat returns to Urfa. His family expects him to take the place of heir, but he refuses and wants his older brother, Akif, to take on that responsibility instead.

The Kordağlıs hear that Serhat has returned and intend to hold him to the agreement with Yıldız. Akif’s own ambition to become the family’s Ağa adds another source of pressure. The official synopsis sets up these competing plans without resolving them: Serhat wants to return to Melek, while the family feud and the expectations around him keep drawing him deeper into Urfa’s conflicts.

This is the central question of the premiere: can Serhat make a personal choice when both families treat his future as part of a wider settlement? Episode 1 introduces that conflict through the contrast between his independent life in Istanbul and the responsibilities tied to his family name. The episode’s setup also gives Melek, Yıldız and Akif different stakes in the same decision, rather than presenting the feud as a background detail only.
